Salix hookeriana is a species of willow known by the common names: Coastal Willow, Dune Willow, and Hooker's Willow. It does well in full to partial sun and is fast-growing, spreading vigorously through rhizomes to form thickets that provide excellent wildlife habitat, erosion control, and windbreaks. The first people used the bark of willows for making string and branches for basket-making. The bark was also used medicinally. Willows provide food and cover for many wildlife species. Because willow catkins produce nectar in early spring, they are of special benefit to bees and other pollinators. Willow is a host to over 300 species of butterfly and moth.
