Programa de Capacitación para Voluntarios Watershed Masters

Top

Watershed Master's program is a series of workshops and fieldtrips held every fall where Skagit County residents learn about our watersheds from the mountains to the sea. Evening workshops and Saturday fieldtrips cover forest and stream health, riparian and habitat planting and maintenance, climate impacts and solutions, salmon, estuaries and shellfish resources, and more.

Orientation- Thursday, Aug.29, 5:30pm-8pm at Skagit Valley College

Learn who we are, what we do, receive your WSM passport, and prepare for the Watershed Master Adventure.

Baker Dam Field Trip-Saturday, Aug. 31

See what Puget Sound Energy is doing to protect natural resources and boost salmon and trout populations.

Lower Day Creek Slough Restoration Tour​ -Saturday, Sep.7

Tour of the Lower day Slough with Restoration Ecologist, Yuki Reiss, and see a habitat enhancement that’s improving fish passage.

Watersheds in Agriculture ​-Thursday, Sep. 12, 5:30pm-8pm at Skagit Valley College

Learn about waterfowl issues with Martha Jordan, then SCD Farm Planner, Ryan Gelwicks will present ways we help people in agriculture implement systems that help farmers and prevent stormwater runoff pollution.

• Judy Reservoir Tour ​-Saturday, Sep. 21 at 9:00am 

Tour the Judy Reservoir water treatment system and learn what happens to our city water between the rivers and your home.

• Plants and Climate Change​ -Thursday, Sep. 26, 5:30pm-8pm at Skagit Valley College

Learn about how people are dealing with the challenges of climate change for planting in riparian projects and at home.

• Wild and Scenic Film Festival ​-Thursday, Oct. 10 at the Lincoln Theater

Enjoy a fun night at the theater!

• Restoration and Beavers ​-Saturday, Oct.12 at Barney Lake

Take a little hike through a riparian restoration site at Barney Lake with Stacy Dahl of Skagit Land trust, see some wildlife and learn about beavers.

• Salmon ​​-Wednesday, Oct 16, 5:30pm-8pm at Skagit Valley College

Learn all about our local salmon from Wayne Watne!

• Estuaries -Saturday, Oct.19, 10:00 am -noon at Padilla Bay Research Reserve

 Learn about Estuaries and visit the Breazeale Interpretive Center at Padilla Bay Reserve with Chandler Colahan.

• Shellfish Resources -Wednesday Oct. 23, 5:30-8pm at Taylor Shellfish Farm

Learn about Shellfish farming with Bill Dewey!

¿Está interesado en conocer nuevos amigos, aprender de expertos locales sobre las maravillas de la cuenca del río Skagit y participar en proyectos comunitarios significativos?   El programa Watershed Masters está destinado a residentes de la comunidad, mayores de 17 años, que aspiran a aumentar sus conocimientos sobre las cuencas hidrográficas locales, la calidad del agua y la ecología de playas y arroyos.  Los participantes asisten a 8 sesiones nocturnas y 3 excursiones de campo los sábados. El propósito del programa es aumentar la conciencia pública sobre una variedad de problemas y soluciones de calidad del agua e inspirar la administración comunitaria con respecto a la calidad del agua.
